Ottawa, Ontario, August 23, 2017 – The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is pleased to announce that Gloria Booth-Morrison has joined the organization as ORCID-CA Member Support Specialist effective August 8, 2017.
Gloria comes to CRKN from the University of Ottawa, an ORCID-CA member, where she worked as a Science and Engineering Librarian. As part of her role there, she designed and delivered workshops relating to journal selection, authors’ rights, and citation metrics.
She previously served as Special Projects Librarian at Concordia University, where she played a key role in the large scale assessment of print and electronic collections. Gloria has in-depth knowledge of the research needs of the academic community as well as the scholarly publishing environment. She also has a strong background in technical support.
“We are very pleased to welcome Gloria to CRKN,” said Clare Appavoo, Executive Director. “Gloria's experience, technical expertise, and communications skills will be important assets to ORCID-CA as it grows and develops. I welcome the opportunity to work with her in this new capacity.”
In her role as ORCID-CA Member Support Specialist, Gloria will provide front-line support and serve as the primary contact with members in both official languages. She will manage and support new members, provide administrative support, and be the central technical support contact to all ORCID-CA members. Gloria will also develop training materials, tools, and guides for members to use within their own institutions, by adapting existing ORCID materials to the bilingual Canadian context.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of ORCID-CA,” remarked Gloria. “I look forward to playing a leading role in the growth of the consortium as well as the adoption of ORCID in Canada.”
Gloria received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Library and Information Studies from McGill University, and is fluently bilingual.
About ORCID-CA
ORCID-CA, the ORCID Consortium in Canada, is an initiative that began in 2016 through a multi-stakeholder working group made up of representatives from organizations and academic institutions across Canada. ORCID-CA provides Canadian institutions and organizations the opportunity to obtain membership to ORCID at a cost lower than that available to individual institutions. Consortium members have access to the Premium Member API, which facilitates integrating ORCID identifiers in key systems and workflows, such as research information systems, manuscript submission systems, grant application processes, and membership databases.
About ORCID
ORCID (named for the “Open Researcher and Contributor ID” that it developed) was established to create and maintain a registry of unique researcher identifiers, and a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers. The organization aims to solve the problems of name ambiguity and researcher identification by giving individuals a unique numeric identifier (an ORCID iD) that persists over time. Unlike other identifiers, an ORCID iD is not limited by discipline or by geographic region and can be used in any open or proprietary commercial or non-commercial system or platform.
About CRKN
The Canadian Research Knowledge Network is a partnership of Canadian universities, dedicated to expanding digital content for the academic research enterprise in Canada. Through the coordinated leadership of librarians, researchers, and administrators, CRKN undertakes large-scale content acquisition and licensing initiatives, currently amounting to almost $124 million annually, in order to build knowledge infrastructure and research capacity in 75 of Canada’s universities. CRKN serves as the consortium lead for ORCID-CA.
